WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT, THE OSTRICHES

The Ostriches are a band from Bilbao, formed by Juancar Parlange (Los Clavos, Bonzos, Help Me Devil, and First Girl On The Moon) and Álvaro Segovia (formerly of Atom Rhumba, Cavaliere, and Bonzos, and a collaborator with various artists such as Nacho Vegas). Clearly, they are two experienced musicians, although with this new project they have just released their first album. And it's not just any album; it's an original and daring work. The Ostriches, who have chosen to remain anonymous (though we already know who they are) and operate as a sort of "ghost band," have selected an instrumental reinterpretation of Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat as their debut.

The album is entirely instrumental. There are no lyrics, no vocals, but even so, the guitars simulate the vocal "melodies," the spoken word, the choruses, and the shouts heard in the original. All the mystery and danger of the stories told in those songs ceases to belong to the story itself and is instead replicated by the sounds the duo coaxes from their instruments.
