WALTER DANIELS MEETS JACK OBLIVIAN & THE SHEIKS - THE RETURN OF… (7")

Jack Oblivian came to Austin and played at a place called Feels So Good. I joined Jack and the Sheiks for “Old Folks Boogie,” and later my wife, Nettie Reynolds, told me I should record with this band. Now, in my past, I can't say I've really received that kind of support for my musical endeavors, but of course, I play harmonica. I had recorded in the past with Jack and some of the Sheiks in Seth Moody's basement, and Jack was in the bathtubs. So, it was really exciting to think about the possibility of recording with all the Sheiks involved.
I've known Jack Oblivian since the '90s: he's a tremendous songwriter, a brilliant home recording master, a multi-instrumentalist, and always gives 110 percent live. Having him mix these songs, along with Keith Cooper, was a huge thrill. Check out the dark Muddy Waters-esque "Read Way Back," and Jack delivers the Chess Hoodoo goods! There are too many musicians today with enormous notoriety who aren't capable of carrying Jack's jockstrap punk rock; I can't do anything about it and other injustices. When we were talking about which songs to do, Jack mentioned the Rolling Stones' Rice Krispies jingle, which he sings here. Grab a bowl and dive in!
