The second installment of the collection *The Future Is Female!* takes its title from retrofuturism, characterized by its exploration of the tensions between the future and the past, and by portraying the future as it was depicted in the past. The themes addressed in the ten stories that make up this volume highlight the problems we have not been able to solve as humanity, the pros and cons of technology, and the fears that have haunted us throughout history and that we know will continue to haunt us in the future. Space plagues, sexist colonizers, the conflict that gender roles bring to the surface, and interstellar racism are some of the themes that help us glimpse universal lines of tension that reach into our own time. At the same time, some stories explore new possibilities in the field of translation; for example, “When I Was Miss Dow,” previously published in Spanish but now translated for the first time using inclusive language, or “For Sale, Reasonable,” an exercise in “collaborative translation” between the book's translators and artificial neural networks.
