KAMENBERT - LAST SCREAM / I HAD A PSYCHEDELIC GIRLFRIEND (REVIVAL SERIES #11)

Kamenbert were born in 1981 in Castelldefels, in the classrooms of L'Escola Edumar in that town, where Manolo Crespo (vocals), the brothers Xavi and Robert Pujadas (bass and drums, respectively) and Dani Preñafeta Egger (rhythm guitar) studied, along with Carlo Calderano (lead guitar and vocals),

Their beginnings weren't strictly mod, like many bands of their generation. They were influenced by the release of the film "Quadrophenia" and the availability of records by the burgeoning British mod revival bands, spearheaded by The Jam. And although, as they themselves say, they weren't a band that wore parkas, their sound clearly shows that they listened to many bands of that style, as well as new wave, soul, and 60s bands. In 1982, they recorded their first demo at the studios of Santi Picó, a veteran guitarist who had collaborated with Los Salvajes. Shortly after, Jesús Pedro de la Rosa Kirkpatrick (nephew of Javier de la Rosa, from the band KIO) entered the scene. He became the band's first manager (the famous "JP" from Brighton 64's first 12" EP), founding the DNI label and, with the help of Ernest Casals (then manager of the mod band Telegrama and head of Flor y Nata Records), recording what would be Kamenbert's debut single, "Último Grito/Tuve Una Novia Psicodélica" (DNI/Flor y Nata, 1983), at Gema I studios in May 1983. The cover featured two comic-book-style portraits of the band, created by illustrator Montesol, known for his work in magazines such as Star, Cairo, and El Víbora.
