CAPITALISM, THE LEFT AND SOCIAL SCIENCE, CHAMORRO JOSÉ MARIA

This book has three parts. The first proposes a renewal of Marxist theory by remedying its major deficiency: Marxism, being a general theory of society, does not integrate, as it should, a psychological theory at its core. This deficiency, excusable in Marx's time but not today, has hindered the development of fundamental Marxist themes, such as ideology, social classes, revolution as the gateway to socialism, and the creation of the "new man." This deficiency can be remedied today by appropriately utilizing the materials and concepts offered since the 1940s by the basic disciplines of social science, as well as systems theory and cybernetics.
In the second part, the renewed Marxist theory is used to develop a critique of capitalism (including the most exemplary social-democratic form), not only of its economy, but above all of its ways of socializing (of manufacturing individuals) and its nature as a disguised plutocracy, which makes capitalism incompatible with democracy.
The third part reflects on how an anti-capitalist left should be organized and what its fundamental tasks should be, far removed from the pressures of electoralism that characterize pro-system political parties, imitated by the Marxist left.
