Autogramm is a synth-driven power-pop quartet from Seattle, Chicago, and Vancouver, drawing influences from The Cars, The Go-Go's, Gary Numan, 20/20, and Devo. The band incorporated sounds from influences such as The Fixx, David Bowie, Cheap Trick, The Boys, The Dickies, Jay Reatard, and Prince. They continued the band's tradition of creating new wave gems with a power-pop edge. The result is a decidedly cohesive album that will easily find a place in the '80s section of your record collection, with songs so well-crafted they probably deserve a spot on the Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack. Music That Humans Can Play explores a myriad of lyrical themes ranging from the hilarious to the tragic. Highlights include "Love is for Fools," which examines love in the age of Covid; "Born Losers," which embraces failure, feeling like an outsider, and being okay with it; "WannaBe," which encourages loving one another in whatever physical form we take; and "Why do we Dance?", which promotes Autogramm's modus operandi: Dance like nobody's watching.
