DOWN HERE, LAIA VIÑAS

A bright blue Renault cuts through the flooded rice paddies heading south. Windows down, laughter, cans of beer, sandwiches, and soft drinks. They're all crammed into the car, embarked on a race against the rigidity of time. This weekend they want to go down, and the pills to sell are well hidden. They land in the parking lot of the first nightclub, the prelude to a night that promises to be endless. Once inside, nothing else matters, only the rhythm that merges with their heartbeats. There they dance under the impossible colored lights and that haze that envelops everything and separates them from the next day, from the hangover, from work, from the problems of a postponed future.
In Aquí abajo, Laia Viñas pays homage to an entire generation, the one that embraced youth to the rhythm of techno on the legendary Ruta Destroy. But she also constructs an intimate and moving story about a group of friends who confront, with their fears, desires, and insecurities, the great mystery of adulthood.
