THE JESS FRANCO FILES VOL. 1, FRANCESCO CESARI & ROBERTO CURTI
Various legends have flourished around Jesús Franco and his work. Some are true, others are false, but most are a bit of both. The myth that he improvised the dialogue during shooting is part of the latter group. «He never had a script or anything like that», said one of his recurring actors, Paul Muller. Yet, the Spanish archives and libraries retain about fifty Franco scripts, which show the complex, troubled production histories of many of his films.
This volume presents four of Franco’s original screenplays and a synopsis, selected from some of his lesser known projects, with commentary and analysis. These texts offer an insight into his scriptwriting methods and into the evolution of some of his works. Fans and scholars alike will appreciate a wealth of new data and facts, much of it never released before. Finally, these files show Franco’s habit of regenerating his ideas, plots and characters over and over, in different forms and combinations, thus tirelessly reshaping his unique and fascinating film universe.
