The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Alicia Armendariz grew up in the shadow of a violent home in East Los Angeles, where childhood scars were etched with beatings and silence was a rare truce. But amidst the noise of secondhand records, the streets of a troubled neighborhood, and the chaos of a scene that was about to be born, she discovered an unexpected weapon: her own voice.
To find her, she put a bag over her head and became Alice Bag. She didn't ask for permission: she simply burst onto the scene. A pioneer of Los Angeles punk, Alice was the unmistakable voice of The Bags and was part of several all-female bands, such as Castration Squad, Cholita, and Las Tres.
