THE WASPS - PUNK PRAYER LP 12"

Those most knowledgeable about the British punk scene of '77 will surely know The Wasps, a band formed in 1976 in East London by original singer and songwriter Jesse Lynn-Dean. They experienced the explosion of the punk rock movement in the UK and shared the stage with The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Damned, Buzzcocks, UK Subs, Sham 69, and so many others...

During the period 76-77, they frequently performed in the most paradigmatic venues of the movement in London and the rest of the United Kingdom, such as The Roxy, The Vortex, The Bridge House, The Marquee, Music Machine,..., and performed live twice on the John Peel program on Radio 1.

Their short-lived discography consisted of two studio singles and one live single shared with Mean Street. Both "Teenage Treats" (one of Peel's favorites) and "Rubber Cars" are considered classics of the era, with the latter (their first release) being RCA's best-selling single in its first week. However, the company's lack of interest and internal disputes led to the band's premature breakup.

In 2019, jumping 40 years back in time, The Wasps reappeared at the "Punkirola" punk festival in the Black Velvet in Torremolinos, Malaga.

The chemistry was right, and they returned to action with their original frontman, Jesse Lynn-Dean, joined by guitarist Martin Hope (formerly of the British punk band The Accused), guitarist Perico Quico (from the Malaga punk band No Picky), and Roly Quesnel on drums (former frontman of the Spanish-based British punk band The Reinfected). All band members currently reside in Malaga and have just recorded their new LP, "Punk Prayer," at Máximo Ruiz Bandera's Hollers Analog Studio. Released digitally on December 9, 2021, it is now being released on vinyl by Family Spree.

The Wasps are currently on tour with several dates already confirmed in the UK, including a performance at the Nice 'n' Sleazy Punk & Ska festival in Morecambe on Friday, June 3rd. The Wasps recently performed at the International Fair of Countries in Fuengirola and in Madrid at the Wurlitzer Ballroom.
