SOWETO - TURN ON THE MUSIC AGAIN

Soweto was born in 1998 in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona, with the intention of emulating their black idols, especially the Jamaican big bands of the 60s. Their main inspiration are the original artists who emerged on the Caribbean island, precursors of the rhythms that shaped Jamaican music as we know and love it.

Soweto's music transports you to an atmosphere reminiscent of the dance floors of 1960s Jamaica, where orchestras had people dancing to the rhythms of jazz, ska, swing, and other syncopated beats. The band's releases to date are a testament to their studio prowess, always striving to record, arrange, and produce in the style of Jamaican studios of the 1960s. Ska and Jamaican rhythm and blues are the foundation and main pillars of the band's sound, though they also incorporate influences like rocksteady, reggae, soul, and jazz.

Throughout these years, Soweto has shared the stage with a good number of original Jamaican artists, as well as accompanying, both in the studio and live, great legends of Jamaican music such as BB Seaton (The Gaylads), Winston Francis, Derrick Morgan, Dennis Alcapone, Rico Rodriguez, and Roy Ellis. It is live performances where Soweto truly shine; their shows end with an euphoric audience that always wants more. They have performed throughout almost all of Spain and in many European venues and festivals, in addition to tours in Italy, France, and Germany.

It is a great honor for Soweto to help preserve the Jamaican cultural and musical legacy of nearly sixty years and to continue keeping alive the spirit of the music that was born with Jamaica's independence in 1965. With this trajectory, Soweto has positioned itself as one of the most emblematic bands on the European scene, and we could almost say on the world stage after their successful participation in the 1st One World Ska & Rocksteady Music Festival in Kingston, Jamaica in 2017, where they were chosen to perform alongside many of their all-time Jamaican idols. The festive and joyful nature of their live shows, as well as the band's professionalism and stage presence, make Soweto's concerts a perfect opportunity to enjoy, dance, feel the energy, and much more.

Turn On The Music Again is Soweto's third full-length album, composed mainly of original songs, which they recorded just before their performance at the One World Ska & Rocksteady Music Festival in Jamaica. Powerful instrumental tracks and captivating vocals make up the twelve songs on this new album.
