PABLO CUEVAS - THE FOUR CARNATIONS (LP)

“Los cuatro claveles” (The Four Carnations) is the title of this debut solo LP by Pablo Cuevas, known in the independent scene as the leader of the rock and roll band Los Fusiles. Thus, “Los cuatro claveles” presents itself as an album brimming with classic and tavern-like sonic reminiscences, where Mediterranean, Hispanic, and American influences intertwine with the anarchic spirit that characterized the various genres of cabaret variety shows of bygone eras. In this unique work, the Sevillian musician's affinity for French chanson, tango, gypsy jazz, Neapolitan song, as well as the echoes of his native Andalusia, is evident. It is not surprising that this is the legacy also claimed by an author who, while listening to national rock, grew up with essential 20th century classics, such as Elvis, Charles Trenet, Adriano Celentano, Amalia Rodrigues, Carlos Gardel, Edith Piaf, Django Reinhardt, Serrat or Marisol.

All of this, together with the ever-present role of its lyrics (the chronicle as a vehicle for telling stories), gives "Los cuatro claveles" a luminous, streetwise, folkloric and internationalist simplicity
