MUTAGENICS - THE FOURTH (LP)

Los Mutagénicos tell us on their new album, El cuarto (The Fourth), that for some people, what matters most is what others think. They're referring to those "normal people" who never seek attention, no matter what they do, even if it's wrong. Los Mutagénicos, on the other hand, prefer the complete opposite and demonstrate this to us, with excellent content and style, through this great album. Recorded during the "apocalyptic" and pandemic-stricken month of December 2021, at the Posada Urreci and the Aldenanueva de Cameros Social Club (La Rioja), it was released in 2022 courtesy of the Spanish label Family Spree Recordings and the British label Dirty Water Records. It's released on 12" vinyl, wrapped in magnificent artwork on the front and back cover featuring drawings by Mikel Echandi. The title refers, on the one hand, to the number of albums released to date by this always surprising band from Logroño, formed in 2008. It can also be interpreted as a hallucinogenic substance whose properties would allow you to see incredible things, including flying and connecting with another galaxy.

As they themselves say, “if the Virgin Mary doesn't appear to you, increase the dose and take another quarter, but remember there's a reason for it.” And if you think you're smarter than everyone else, so much so that you can't see in this work a highly inspired band, creators of memorable songs, it's perhaps because you're still not clear on what to recognize.
