In 1992, Mudhoney left Sub-Pop and signed with Reprise Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers. After working on a handful of songs, we decided to record some demos of what we had. My high school friend, Rolf Bertieg, and his friend Jim Collier had set up a studio in the basement of Jim's house in the Wedgwood neighborhood of Seattle, where, with a few songs and several cases of beer, we made these recordings.
The songs on this record were eventually re-recorded and released on our album Piece Of Cake, except for “Knock It On The Head”, which has remained unreleased until now (maybe there is a reason for this, but I will let the listener make their own decision).
The energy and atmosphere of these recordings reflect how we wanted the final Piece of Cake to sound. I hope you enjoy this archaeological dig through our past.
