And by God, there are few cases like Los Fusiles, since in just four years they've managed to create their own undeniable songbook, in which their latest, "A mano armada," adds another stone to the pantheon of anthems seared into the listener's memory. Their third LP is neither better nor worse than their previous two albums; it's simply another Los Fusiles album, with all that entails. They're menacing (for the first time on a cover) from the fiery red landscape that reminds us they are Los Fusiles, yes, but the people's rifles. They open with a declaration of intent in "A tumba abierta," which evokes classic, gritty rock 'n' roll but quickly evolves into another of those catchy, singable choruses that will have the front rows of their concerts rocking. They flex their muscles, deliver powerful riffs, and show off their energy in "El ritual," just as they do in "Capitán," where they once again treat us to one of those quintessential Fusiles characters we've encountered so many times in the seedy dive bars. "El intento" demonstrates their mastery of mid-tempo grooves, with melodic drive as their hallmark, and they close out a fantastic first side with an almost pop-psychedelic ballad like "Nada importante."
Another album from Los Fusiles, neither better nor worse, an album that dignifies the concept of an LP as a collection of songs that cement an astonishing career in terms of quality condensed into a short time. They hit the bullseye again, that is, they hit us right in the heart.
