THE HEROIN DIARIES: A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF A BROKEN ROCK STAR, NIKKI SIXX WITH IAN GITTINS
When Mötley Crüe reached the height of their fame, there was no drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't try. He would spend entire days—sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers—enveloped in a haze induced by cocaine and heroin. The high was undeniable, and Nikki's diary entries reflect his euphoria, but the comedowns were increasingly terrible and often ended with him locked in a closet, surrounded by syringes and immersed in paranoid delusions. In one of the most unique memoirs ever published about drug addiction, Nikki shares those diary entries from the year his drug use spiraled completely out of control, bringing him to the very brink of death. Some are poetic, others delirious and absurd, but all reflect the moment in which they were written. To provide proper context, the entries are annotated with the perspective that time affords, by Nikki himself, along with a whole host of friends, colleagues, ex-partners, and family members who personally experienced the consequences of what he recounts. Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Slash, Vanity, Rick Nielsen, Bob Rock, Lemmy, and Ross Halfin are just a few of the more than two dozen names that appear in the book to bring some order to the madness.
The diaries of the heroine It was originally published in 2007. Ten years later, it was relaunched with an addition of eighty pages of unpublished material; it is this new "Tenth Anniversary Edition" that has served as the basis for ours.
"With In The Heroin Diaries, Nikki hit the nail on the head, immersing the reader in a journey into madness through her distinctive confessional, at times almost claustrophobic, writing style. A magnificent chronicle of the nightmare of addiction in a rock 'n' roll context.
