KEITH & TEX - SAME OLD STORY LP 12"
Keith & Tex are now icons of Jamaican Rocksteady, with timeless classics like 'Tonight', 'This Is My Song', 'Run To The Rocks', 'Goodbye Baby' and, of course, 'Stop That Train', a song known worldwide for its appearance in Jimmy Cliff's film 'The Harder They Come'.
Keith Rowe and Philip Texas Dixon, both from Kingston, met through a mutual friend and quickly formed the duo Keith & Tex, accompanied by five other musicians. They sang wherever they could, hoping for a chance to record some material. They auditioned for some of the biggest names in Jamaica at the time, including Duke Reid, Prince Buster, and Coxsone Dodd, but none showed much interest in the group, and they eventually disbanded. However, the duo didn't give up and continued working until their moment arrived.
And that moment arrived when they met Derrick Harriott and began working for him, capturing the duo's best moments in single format in the late 1960s with songs like 'Stop That Train' (originally a ska track by The Spanishtonians), 'Tonight', 'This Is My Song', 'Don't Look Back' (a cover of The Temptations), and 'Let Me Be the One'. But the story didn't last long; they stopped recording gems in 1970 when they both emigrated: Keith to the US and Tex to Canada.
From then on, they remained connected to music in one way or another, but not professionally, until 1997 when they reunited to perform a few concerts and record an album. That same year, Keith embarked on a new career as a radio presenter with the program 'Sounds of the Caribbean,' an exciting adventure that lasted until 2013. Since then, they have never wanted to stray far from music and in recent years have been performing at festivals quite often in the US, Europe, and Japan.
2017 saw the release of new original material produced by Roberto Sánchez at A-Lone Ark Muzik Studio with the publication of this album. Composed entirely of original material, the album maintains the Rocksteady style that the duo championed during their golden era from 1967 to 1969, while also incorporating elements of Ska and Reggae throughout the 11 tracks. This album demonstrates the duo's current peak performance, and combined with Roberto Sánchez's impeccable production, makes it a true gem.
