JACK MEATBEAT & THE UGS - 30 YEARS AFTER (LP)
Jack Meatbeat and the Underground Society formed in the town of Ilmajoki, in northwestern Finland, in 1989. The original lineup, which appears on their first album, included three guitarists, as well as drums, bass, and vocals. HP Björkmann, who also wrote most of their early lyrics, left soon after to pursue a successful acting career. His departure solidified the band's signature twin-guitar sound.
After releasing two 7″ singles through a small Finnish independent label, Trash Can Records, the band moved to Helsinki in 1992, except for their original singer, who got married and left the group. It was then that Eduardo Martínez, born in South America, entered the scene and became their frontman.
This new classical lineup recorded and released a 7″ EP in 1993 and a CD in 1995 before touring all over Europe and recording their only two official albums, "Neptune" (1997) and "Back from World War III" (2000), which were highly acclaimed.
At some point, lead songwriter and guitarist Jukka Suksi joined a side project that was originally instrumental and focused on covers, The Flaming Sideburns, but he also brought Eduardo with him as a singer, who just happened to have also brought The Punisher from Jack Meatbeat & The UGS on bass! So it was like 3 out of 5 still "Jack Meatbeat" with this new project.
When Munster Rcds released their latest album, Jack Meatbeat & The UGS were offered an extensive European tour with The Hives, but unfortunately they had to decline this offer, as the band had "unofficially" broken up even before the album was released, and this was stated in the album credits.
Legendary French producer Marc Zermati, of Skydog fame, also flew to Helsinki after hearing their latest album and meeting Eduardo, Jukka Suksi, and The Punisher. He offered his management services to revive the band, but it proved to be an impossible business venture.
There was interest and plans before releasing this, their first full album exclusively on vinyl, both in France and Spain, but it never materialized, until now: Jack Meatbeat & The UGS «30 Years After» on Chaputa! Records.
