GENERATOR - GREATEST HITS FROM OUTSIDE THE RADIO (LP)
Greatest Hits from the Suburbs. Compilation of singles and EPs 2018-2023.
It's been almost six years since 2018, when, thanks to Jarama 45RPM Recs. and their sub-label Club Farina, we first learned of Generador, the new project from Annie Babyy J. Horror, now a drum/guitar duo. Taking their name from the generator that powers their home in the Madrid suburbs where there's no electricity, they debuted with a two-song single, including one of their signature tracks, "Me estoy peinando" (I'm Combing My Hair). This song clearly establishes their intentions: a sound heavily influenced by bands like their beloved The Cramps, Desechables, Gories, early rock 'n' roll, the first garage bands, and even 60s girl groups or Palito Ortega (whose song they cover). It's an amalgamation of rock 'n' roll, psychobilly, garage, and punk, with touches of pop, and well-crafted, fun lyrics in Spanish. Later, an LP was released, which, once sold out, was reissued as a 7" EP with 8 songs (only original tracks, excluding the 4 cover versions). And if Generador is known for anything, besides their meticulous record designs, it's for releasing 7" records. Some of them are now out of print and highly sought after. This “Greatest Hits of the Suburbs” compilation includes all the songs from their previous singles and EPs, namely the aforementioned “Combatir/Me estoy peinando” (2018) on Jarama 45RPM, the two volumes of “A-Go-Go EP” (Vol. 2 in 2021 and Vol. 1 in 2022), both on Ghost Highway Recordings, and their latest work to date, “Cuesta abajo” (2023), released by the Delia Records/Diablo Club/SnapRecords trio, with whom we've joined forces once again for this compilation. And to make it even more exciting, it will include two previously unreleased bonus tracks: the recently released “Yo adoro a Lux Interior” and “No te va a tocar,” which you'll be able to hear in a few weeks. This 16-song limited edition album, with only 300 copies available physically, will be released in April. The design is still the work of Francisco Diaz Corbacho, who has collaborated with the band on other occasions.
