DOUBLE JABS - MILLION DOLLAR REGGAE (LP)
At the helm of Team Jabs is Gos the Boss, legendary keyboardist and composer for the ska band The Cabrians. For years, Gos has been delivering powerful ska hits, creating anthems for a wayward youth. In this new project, he compiles his most personal compositions and shapes them into reggae, his great passion.
The group of fighters that make up Double Jabs' team are old friends who have already fought their fair share of battles in the band Flight 404, such as Alejo Peloche and Javier García. The former, a reggae drumming star and also a renowned trombonist in bands like The Kinky Coo Coos and the Blackstarliners. The latter, an impressive guitarist and composer for the delightful The Oldians, as well as a studio guitarist and member of the main backing bands that accompany Jamaican stars in our neck of the woods. The centerpiece of the Jabs' rhythm section is the bass guitar of a true soul groover, Fran Palmero, aka Mystic Man. His work leading early Soweto, Ranking Soldiers, and Slingshots can be dangerous, as it leaves anyone breathless. The distinctive touch in this group of reggae fighters comes from the most elegant saxophonist ever to step into the ring, Ricard Vinyets. His agile and refined saxophone has resonated for over 20 years in bands like Amusic Skazz Band, The Oldians, and The Cabrians.
These guys jump into the ring with hunger, courage, and enough experience to sound like the Jamaican studio bands of the late sixties: Upsetters, Dynamites, Crystalites, Hippy Boys, or Sound Dimension. And this killer combo is perfectly backed up by a raw talent on vocals, Memi Sillah. Sillah's beautiful voice and Jamaican black timbre make Double Jabs' songs undeniable hits. Eight precise tracks of rocksteady and skinhead reggae can be found on this great debut album, titled Million Dollar Reggae. Here's the tracklist:
A1. My Baby
A2. Just One Hug
A3. Rudie Can't Go Well
A4. Pay Your Cutman
B1. Got You In My Mind
B2. Find Your Own Road
B3. It Seems Done
B4. Look A Jab
